System QA Engineer

Summary:

  • We have QA engineer openings for our high performance database appliance product. Candidates need QA experience with complex enterprise-class server-based products with high performance/scaling characteristics, for example database products or complex storage systems.

Job Profile:  

  • Major responsibilities include system testing of hardware, software, storage and operating system components such as memory management and scheduling, including system RAS (reliability, availability, serviceability), crash-recovery testing, error injection based testing of software and hardware to generate failures, performance/scaling tests of hardware, software and storage components. Example candidate profiles for System QA would be experience with system-testing of products with major Hardware as well as Software components such as storage products or appliances in database or storage markets. You will also be testing areas of the database engine (such as SQL queries, DML, DDL, transactions, logging, recovery, performance/scalability, administration and management) You will work in a multi-site team of QA engineers, to help drive the execution of QA strategy and process, and build an enterprise-class testing infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a superior ability to design and execute QA in an agile development environment with a distributed team. You will work with the engineering management, product management to help devise QA strategy, QA plans/milestones, tracking of product quality and QA team metrics, and to lead the onshore and offshore QA team to successfully deliver key milestones such as beta and GA of product with highest quality and performance on predictable schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and development of QA infrastructure which will support automated regression tests, performance tests and stress tests.
  • Develop QA test plans for system testing and database feature testing.
  • Provide leadership to junior and remote QA team members.
  • Investigation and selection of appropriate QA tools for developing, running and analyzing tests.
  • Execution of the QA development and testing projects in a timely and transparent fashion.
  • Help team to execute QA strategy to increase quality while reducing cost and time-to-market, leveraging a high degree of test automation and offshore resources.
  • Mentor QA engineers and other R&D team members on the QA process, particularly in the context of an agile development environment.
  • Work with the development teams to introduce quality at early stage into the product development lifecycle using agile and test driven development techniques.
  • Ensure that test results are properly documented, executed, and tracked.
  • Assist the development teams in reproducing and solving product-related problems.


Qualifications: 

  • 5-10 years experience in QA of enterprise-class software, hardware and system products.
  • Experience in testing custom hardware, system RAS, system integration
  • Experience in testing highly available systems, various fault injection techniques and firmware testing techniques.
  • Good understanding of at least one DBMS system (Oracle, DB2,MySQL, MSSql Server, Sybase).
  • Experience with test automation, scripting, and building or using QA infrastructure setup and QA tools.
  • Experience working with remote and offshore teams.
  • Experience with all phases of the software development/QA lifecycle
  • Experience with system testing, white box testing, black box testing, load testing, stress testing, performance testing, and test automation.
  • Experience with risk management techniques and their application to QA.
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Excellent organization, writing, communication and interpersonal skills, and highly self-motivated

Desirable:

  • Experience with Linux and MySQL
  • Familiarity with data warehouse, data mart, and business intelligence applications.
  • QA/development experience with system products that have both hardware and software components.
  • Experience with performance benchmarking and performance testing/profiling of enterprise class products such as databases
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies.
